Video on Demand for Galician Heritage is an initiative under the Heritage Conservation and Construction Industry Technologies Programme (Research and Development Directorate General. Xunta de Galicia).
The project aims to promote the exploitation and widespread availability of Galician cultural and tourist resources by means of their digitalisation and distribution through electronic broadband networks. Its overall objectives are to identify, catalogue and select existing audiovisual heritage contents so as to further be digitized and exploited trough Video on Demand networks.
VIDEMANIUM, that will last 16 months, is addressed to the following stakeholders:
- Professional heritage researchers, lecturers, entrepreneurs, workers…
- Heritage promotion institutions (record offices of history, libraries, museums…)
- Final users (citizens)
On the final stages of the project, two broadband networks will be used as test-beds in order to validate the results:
- RECETGA (Rede de Ciencia e Tecnoloxía de Galicia), that will be used with the allowance of the Supercomputing Centre of Galicia (CESGA) and the support LFCIA (University of A Coruña Laboratory), and
- The R (the Galician cable operator) Network
This final test will ensure the access to a critical mass of users and the existence of the required broadband for the future exploitation of the audiovisual heritage contents. The widespread impact and diffusion will be granted trough these means.
